There are summer one-hit wonders, and then there are THOSE summer one-hit wonders. We all know the ones–the sandblasted, overplayed tracks that force us to do things like line dances, bark like a dog, and in the case of Tag Team, make us say things like, “Whoomp, there it is.” Admit it….you know you did…
But, it’s not all bad when it comes to those one-hit summer singles. Mr. Sir Mix-A-Lot certainly delivered a booty anthem for the ages when he served up “Baby Got Back” in ’92, and Carly Rae‘s “Call Me Maybe” isn’t all that bad when it’s not being forced into our headphones, much like it was when it hit the airwaves running three summers ago. Also, there’s last year’s big summer smash, “Rude,” by Magic!, which is another nice groove to hear now that radio has finally like Ms. CeCe slowed down the airplay.
It’s no secret that the summer music market is a tough one to crack, but these next artists all gave it a shot (yes, even you, Freaknasty), and while they couldn’t match the success of their ocean-breezed-up predecessors, there’s a reason why we let them into our summer music worlds….and they’re all here for everyone once again. So, go ahead, do the “Macarena” one more time–you know you want to.
