4.Tower Records 4 Lyfe….
Remember record stores? You know those places where your parents would drive you to so you could buy music?
When a record store like Tower Records is legendary enough to hold onto its recognition even after bankruptcy, we must it pay it true music respect. We all know how it goes–the bigger they are, the harder they fall, which couldn’t be truer for now defunct Tower Records.
The infamous groove retail shop was a staple in the music industry in the late 20th century, but by 2006, the music giant had filed for bankruptcy.
Now, there’s an upcoming documentary All Things Must Pass that explains just how it all went down…literally. The film, directed by Tom Hanks’ son, Colin, looks at factors beyond theories on how the Internet killed the record store, and also follows Tower Records humble beginnings and its heartbreaking end, all while hearing from its founder, Russell Solomon, who narrates the movie.
Watch Mr. Hanks discuss All Things Must Pass on Jimmy Kimmel last month.
