5 Reasons Why You Should Get Over It and Go See ‘Ghostbusters’ This Weekend

Here…we….go.

In just two days, Sony and Paul Feig’s $145 (eek!) million Ghostbusters reboot is about to haunt theaters (and hopefully pick up the summer box office) in all of its proton pack glory. With a cast that stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon (do you think she’s already preparing for her cold open as Hilary on the season premiere of SNL this fall? Yas), one would think that this film would be pure box office shattering gold, because here we have a fierce foursome of oh, so funny gals and a director who has an outstanding track record….and neon CGI ghosts!

That couldn’t further from the truth when it comes to this movie, since we all know it was lauded from the moment we heard the words Ghostbusters reboot. It made matters even worse when the first trailer released for it earlier this year was met with major redwood forest shade, and in turn it became the most disliked trailer in YouTube history.

However, that debacle wasn’t even the half of it because most up the uproar stemmed from the fact that this was going to be an all female reboot that was going to a far cry from the testosterone driven 1984 original that starred Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis that would go on to bring home like a kajillion dollars at the box office. So, how dare they put women in those iconic roles? Well…it’s time to finally get over it.

Besides having a blessing from original director Ivan Reitman (who was also heavily involved in the new project), the film has received a bag of positive reviews, with Time saying the new Ghostbusters is “the most fun you’ll have at the moves this summer.” It also helps that the film is standing at a Stay Puft 77% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is just one more reason why you should get over it and take a seat at the theatre with a big ol’ tub of popcorn and see Ghostbusters this weekend.

1.Because it stars four of the funniest gals in the world. Much like the original, the film stars several lead characters who are or have been tangled up in the long lasting SNL world. Wiig owned her spot until a few years ago, Jones and McKinnon are currently doing their thing, and although McCarthy was never a host, we all know she certainly does her thing whenever she seasonally graces us with her never ending comedic presence.

Each of the leading ladies have also worked together in one or way or another prior to the reboot, but now that we’ve got them all together for a whole entire movie, you can bet there might one or two hundred laughs along the way. You do like to laugh, right? If you don’t, that’s too bad because word at the haunted Monaco Hotel is that the movie is also hilarious as all hell, and it’s these lovely ladies that make it happen. So, go.

2.Mr. Feig is a comedy/box office genius… While those who threw shade at the reboot may have felt gratified in their lemon heaving, they forgot to take a look at one certain fact–Paul Feig is a comedy genius with a near flawless track record at the box office. On a list that already includes well received box office smashes Spy, Bridesmaids, The Heat, as well as the brains behind the cult classic NBC T.V. show, Freaks and Geeks, Feig has proven himself to be a standout director who knows how to do one thing very well–deliver solid comedy hits at the box office. It’s a shame those haters doubted the standout director, because with an upcoming weekend box office prediction take upwards north of $50 million, he’s about to do it again.

3.Because….Chris Hemsworth. The guy who played Thor is in this movie in the secreterial role made famous by Mary Jo, err, Annie Potts in the original (“Ghostbustas, whataya want?”)Oh, and that supposedly he’s funny as f#$k and one hell of an ad libber. Sigh…

4.Nostalgia rules…Let’s face it, in today’s crazy world, it seems as if those certain nostalgic pop culture moments are all we’ve all got sometimes, so really, what could be better than going back to the time when Ghostbusters ruled the world? Absolutely nothing. While this version is indeed deemed a “reboot,” many critics are saying that the film does a good job at throwing cheers to the original, and those of us who live, breathe and slime very moment of the original know that it will certainly make us feel good to go back to a time when it all was just a bit easier to get through.

5.Because your childhood isn’t going to be ruined. Like…seriously. It’s all good. Stop the shade and go see it…or Slimer will come find you and eat all of your hot dogs.
