ALL the January 2017 Drag Tea w/Ms. Brittany Lynn

Hey, kids!

Well 2016 has ripped us all a new one lately-we are saying goodbye to our favorite President since JFK and replacing him with…well…let’s just keep it cute for now…

We said goodbye to countless celebs like music icons Prince and Bowie, our beloved Princess Leia, and sent Postcards from the Edge to everyone’s stagemom Debbie Reynolds.

2016, we cannot take ANYMORE of you! Like I said on the Facebooks, you owe us ALL a puppy AND an apology!

But as one JITBAG of a year closes, a new and fresh one begins-and this one greets us with a lovely reacharound of all new events! Take a look kiddies and drink in all this Gayborhood tea:

Mummers New Year’s Day Parade with the Miss Fancy Brigade-9am, PHL 17 live broadcast, or watch it down Broad street from City Hall to Washington Ave. The ladies of the Miss Fancy Brigade, the only all LGBTQ Mummers Brigade, take to the streets to march for their fifth year with a Storybook theme. What was started in 2012 by yours truly with the help of my gay guru Mark Segal, then Councilman and now Mayor Jim Kenney, the Mummers President Jim Julia, and head of the Fancy Brigades-the infamous Rocco, the queens have officially brought drag back in full force for all the masses to see! Check out all the gals dressed as your favorite storybook characters, Disney Princesses, and of course, evil queens-and give some love to the Mummers LGBT Liason Committee-Lisa Thompson (of Bob & Barbara’s fame), Michael Byrne aka Gay Bingo’s Carlotta Tendant and Chumley Singer-for helping this old broad make the magic happen each New Year’s Day! The girls will be marching in front of a giant storybook with lots of gayborhood characters, volunteers, and story-telling, empowering banners courtesy of all of our participating sponsors!

Why do these ladies get up each year, after entertaining you all until the wee hours the night before-and slap on fresh war paint (well, some of us do) and brave the cold and a long walk in heels? I asked the ones that could read and write and here’s what they had to say…

Karen Vonsay:“This will be my wish to walk as many times possible for bobs@Bobs@Barbara”

Dusty Relix:“I’m marching because our community is resilient, and no matter what, love wins in the end.”

Iris Spectre:“I’m marching for hope and faith in our community and others alike. We are all walking together like we do in life, and with that walk we must band together to make progress!”

Roxy Von Phresh:“The love and pride of Philadelphia becomes tangible, I can wrap myself in it.”

Zsa Zsa St. James:“I’m marching to be a part of this amazing tradition and experiencing it for the first time.”

Navaya Shay:“The first year this brigade marched wasn’t enough for me..so here I am back, four years later, still loving it and keeping up with this Philadelphia tradition!!
This is the fifth year right..lol..time flys”

Aurora Whorealis:“I am marching because I was told there would be fried chicken. J/K!”
(Editor’s note: She wasn’t…)

Martini Madness: “I’m marching to see smiles on the kids faces and to encourage them to be who they are.”

Anthony Michael:“I’m marching for tradition and change! A tradition that is rooted deep in my family and our culture. A tradition that is evolving and changing for the better. To be a part of it this parade is amazing, especially as myself, a drag queen matching for equality and pride! “

2016 Groove of the Year/Ms. RiRi/Mr. Harris/”This Is What You Came For

Out of all of the tracks that were served to radio this year (let’s face it…some were a big ol’ weave of a mess) there were truly none that made you feel it all sorts of over like “This is What You Came For,” the latest steaming collaboration from ultra paid DJ Calvin Harris and our ANTi, girl, Ms. RiRi.

With its sexy synths, killer pop hook and everything else in beat-ween, it just gets to werk….and we can only hope we get offered more grooves like this one come next year.

But in the meantime, let’s dance, bitch, and Happy New Year, kids!

Sing Your Life Karaoke/All Over Philly In the mood to just sing it all out tomorrow night? Then follow those vocal slay bells on over to Les & Doreen’s Happy Tap and say Auld Lang Syne to the fabulous Sara Sherr and her massive Sing Your Life Karaoke collection, which is guaranteed to have that one song you can’t wait to butcher one last time like Ariana in 2016. 9pm-1, 1301 E Susquehanna Ave

Superdope Pre New Years Turn Up/Tonight Now, what could be more dope than a pre New Year’s turn up served up by the Gayborhood’s one-and-only, Mr. Stro Kyle? Absolutely nothing, especially when he’ll be serving up kinds of fabulously priced bottles (go here..now) with all kinds of beats from all over the music map provided by DJ Reezey that will be flowin’ like champagne all night long. But perhaps the best part of it all (besides the fact that this party despises negative vibes..so leave it at the garage door), is that your fabulous hostess, Icon Ebony-Fearce, and the Insatiable Taste of Sin herself, Ms. Omyra Lynn, will be taking over the stage to slay your 2016 lives one last time. Werk. Tonight, 9pm, Tabu, 200 South 12th St.

Kurt Vile and The Violators Ready to rock it out one final time in 2016 and give it up to a tremendous local music artist? Then Mr. Vile has got you covered. Literally…because that hair. Happy New Wave! The Sex Dwarf NYE Party If there’s one entertainer in Philly who can throw a New Year’s Eve dance party like nobody’s New Wave business, it’s certainly DJ Robert Drake, who’s bringing his Sex Dwarf party full swing into 2017. So, if you’re looking to avoid all of that Philly New Year’s drama (you know there’s always a little somethin’ goin’ down), head to Club Mousai (go right here for that Aqua Net ready info) and get cozy with Mr. Drake and his extraordinary catalog of classic grooves that’ll keep you warm all the way until the ball and those beats drop. 8 pm, Club Mousai, 1227 Walnut St.

New Year’s Eve at Valanni Just when you thought you recovered from their red-hot Freeze affair at the start of the holiday season, Mr. Michael Duffy and his Valanni werk crew are back and ready to do it up in all kinds of fabulous Philly style. Meaning, get ready for one oh, so fancy evening filled with grooves by LEE, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a delightful four course tasting menu and lots and lots of champagne bubbles to help you get your New Year’s Eve freak on like Missy. 8 pm, Valanni, 1229 Spruce St.

New Year’s Eve with the Diva’s Is becoming that diva part of your one hundred New Year’s resolutions? The Mummer’s Day Parade starring Brittany Lynn Gird your hangovers, because Brittany Lynn and the rest of her Fancy Brigade gaggle of girlfriends are back for the 118th (!!) annual Mummer’s Day Parade and ready to serve up a storybook theme that’s guaranteed to be nothing short of a legendary fairy-tale.

But before she marches for her life this Sunday, she’ll be interrupting your Saturday brunch party one more time this year when she stops by Philly Mixtape tomorrow and serves up January’s piping hot edition of ALL the local drag tea….and this is one calendar you don’t want to miss out on! Stay tuned, kids! And for much more on this year’s Mummer’s extravaganza, strut it on up right here.
