ALL the January 2017 Drag Tea w/Ms. Brittany Lynn

Hey, kids!

Well 2016 has ripped us all a new one lately-we are saying goodbye to our favorite President since JFK and replacing him with…well…let’s just keep it cute for now…

We said goodbye to countless celebs like music icons Prince and Bowie, our beloved Princess Leia, and sent Postcards from the Edge to everyone’s stagemom Debbie Reynolds.

2016, we cannot take ANYMORE of you! Like I said on the Facebooks, you owe us ALL a puppy AND an apology!

But as one JITBAG of a year closes, a new and fresh one begins-and this one greets us with a lovely reacharound of all new events! Take a look kiddies and drink in all this Gayborhood tea:

Mummers New Year’s Day Parade with the Miss Fancy Brigade-9am, PHL 17 live broadcast, or watch it down Broad street from City Hall to Washington Ave. The ladies of the Miss Fancy Brigade, the only all LGBTQ Mummers Brigade, take to the streets to march for their fifth year with a Storybook theme. What was started in 2012 by yours truly with the help of my gay guru Mark Segal, then Councilman and now Mayor Jim Kenney, the Mummers President Jim Julia, and head of the Fancy Brigades-the infamous Rocco, the queens have officially brought drag back in full force for all the masses to see! Check out all the gals dressed as your favorite storybook characters, Disney Princesses, and of course, evil queens-and give some love to the Mummers LGBT Liason Committee-Lisa Thompson (of Bob & Barbara’s fame), Michael Byrne aka Gay Bingo’s Carlotta Tendant and Chumley Singer-for helping this old broad make the magic happen each New Year’s Day! The girls will be marching in front of a giant storybook with lots of gayborhood characters, volunteers, and story-telling, empowering banners courtesy of all of our participating sponsors!

Why do these ladies get up each year, after entertaining you all until the wee hours the night before-and slap on fresh war paint (well, some of us do) and brave the cold and a long walk in heels? I asked the ones that could read and write and here’s what they had to say…

Karen Vonsay:“This will be my wish to walk as many times possible for bobs@Bobs@Barbara”

Dusty Relix:“I’m marching because our community is resilient, and no matter what, love wins in the end.”

Iris Spectre:“I’m marching for hope and faith in our community and others alike. We are all walking together like we do in life, and with that walk we must band together to make progress!”

Roxy Von Phresh:“The love and pride of Philadelphia becomes tangible, I can wrap myself in it.”

Zsa Zsa St. James:“I’m marching to be a part of this amazing tradition and experiencing it for the first time.”

Navaya Shay:“The first year this brigade marched wasn’t enough for here I am back, four years later, still loving it and keeping up with this Philadelphia tradition!!
This is the fifth year flys”

Aurora Whorealis:“I am marching because I was told there would be fried chicken. J/K!”
(Editor’s note: She wasn’t…)

Martini Madness: “I’m marching to see smiles on the kids faces and to encourage them to be who they are.”

Anthony Michael:“I’m marching for tradition and change! A tradition that is rooted deep in my family and our culture. A tradition that is evolving and changing for the better. To be a part of it this parade is amazing, especially as myself, a drag queen matching for equality and pride! “
