Hump Day Music Truth

1.The trailer for Mariah’s holiday movie has arrived…

Mark your calendars–Mariah Carey’s made-for-TV Christmas movie that she both directs and appears in will be taking over The Hallmark Channel on Saturday, Dec 19th.

Titled, A Christmas Melody (and surprisingly not All I Want For Christmas Is You), the movie revolves around Kristin (Lacey Chabert of Mariah’s favorite movie, Mean Girls, naturally) ), a stylish divorcee who is a rising clothing designer and has a young daughter named Emily.

According to the official press release. “Kristin has just had to close her small Manhattan boutique to return to her Ohio home town and live in her parents’ former home. It’s an adjustment for Kristin and Emily — especially when she runs into her former high school rival Melissa (Mariah Carey). Melissa is president of the PTA and tries to make Kristin feel as unwelcome as possible. Kristin and Emily struggle to find their new normal with the help of the music teacher Danny (Brennan Elliott) and Kristin’s Aunt Sarah (Kathy Najimy), the local coffee shop owner. With a little holiday magic and music, Kristin and Emily find that home is where the heart is.”

While Carey herself isn’t singing in the trailer, her massive holiday hit is front-and-center….and we can’t wait for this one.

2.Blondie, Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac and many others join Grammy Hall of Fame…

What do Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” the Grateful Dead’s American Beauty album, and Fleetwood Mac’s blockbuster s self-titled 1975 album all have in common besides being rock classics? They’re just a handful of the 26 new recordings that will be inducted into The Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016.

“It’s very nice to be included in such incredible company,” says Blondie’s Deborah Harry. “’Heart of Glass’ has lived through quite a few incarnations, and now to become a part of history is just perfectly delicious.”

While announcing the Grammy Hall of Fame’s latest additions, The Recording Academy president/CEO Neil Portnow spilled, “Spanning more than 50 years, the 2016 entries are an outstanding collection, marked by both historical and cultural significance. These works have influenced and inspired both music creators and fans for generations.”

3.There’s absolutely no music shade between Adele and Beyoncé…

Adele has finally set the record straight on whether or not there’s shade between her and Beyoncé. “There’s a rumor going round that I turned Beyoncé down which I would never be so disrespectful as to do,” Adele told Beats 1, according to E! “I’d never disrespect her like that. Obviously, like, Queen Bey ’til the day I die.”

While the once rumored collaboration won’t appear on Adele’s upcoming 25, which drops Friday, Adele’s praises for Blue Ivy’s momma means that we can continue to keep our fingers crossed for a duet at some point…like say, next year’s Grammy Awards?

4.The Zoolander 2 trailer has also arrived….

As if reveling in the trailer for Mariah’s holiday movie wasn’t enough, Derek Zoolander has also returned..with the Biebs!

A movie franchise made famous in 2001 by Stiller as male model, Derek Zoolander, and Owen Wilson as fellow male model, Hansel, Zoolander 2 is set to hit theaters on Feb 12th, 2016. Also on board for the sequel are Penelope Cruz and Benedict Cumberbatch (as a male model!), which finds Zoolander and Hansel trying to nail the bad guys behind the high-profile celebrity murders that have been taking place, including the slaying of “giant pop star” Justin Bieber.

The Biebs — who just released his scorching Purpose–is all up in the trailer, snapping his final breaths with Zoolander’s signature “duck face,” plus a couple more surprises that you just have to watch the trailer below to find out what they are.

5.Adam Lambert is heading on a North American tour…

Get the guy liner ready…

After announcing a slew of overseas stops, American Idol Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert looks like he will also be adding U.S. dates to his latest road spectacle.

The “Ghost Town” singer took to Twitter to tease the news. “USA: you’re getting a tour too! Stay Tuned,” he tweeted last night.

Although there are no solid details as of yet, this is good news for those fans who might have felt left out after the wildly vivid entertainer announced his European dates, which will begin April 13 at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Mr. Lambert has also been busy overseas promoting his album, The Original High, where he recently performed his latest single, “Another Lonely Night,” on Swedish Idol.

6.Eagles of Death Metal release powerful statement following deadly Paris attacks….

In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack at the Nov. 13’s Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris’ Le Bataclan that claimed more than 80 lives, the California rock band has just issued its first full statement on the terrible tragedy, which is full of gratitude to the French police, as well as full of sorrow for those who lives were lost during this senseless tragedy.

Read the official statement below…

“While the band is now home safe, we are horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France. Our thoughts and hearts are first and foremost with our brother Nick Alexander, our record company comrades Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, and all the friends and fans whose lives were taken in Paris, as well as their friends, families, and loved ones.

“Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together, with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion.

“We would like to thank the French police, the FBI, the U.S. and French State Departments, and especially all those at ground zero with us who helped each other as best they could during this unimaginable ordeal, proving once again that love overshadows evil.

“All EODM shows are on hold until further notice.”

Vive la musique, vive la liberté, vive la France, and vive EODM.”

Tuesday Music Truth

1.Duran Duran will play a major part in helping Eagles of Death Metal get to number one…

Yesterday, a fan-led campaign got heavily underway to send Eagles of Death Metal’s cover of Duran Duran’s “Save a Prayer” to the top of the U.K. music charts, and now Duran Duran themselves have announced that they will donate all proceeds received from the version.

Following the deadly attack at Paris’ Bataclan theater during the Eagles of Death Metal concert on Friday, Duran Duran front man Simon Le Bon made the pledge last night on Twitter, saying the band would be “considering options that are useful, peaceful & uniting.”

2.Adele had quite a lovely music tea with SiriusXM Radio yesterday….

Keeping up with her delightfully gentle music world take over, Adele joined SiriusXM for quite a lovely music tea yesterday, spilling about what music is rockin’ her these world days, being a mum, and whether she’s going to tour with 25

As far as her favorite grooves, the “Hello” singer gets lost in the music likes of CHVRCHES, Grimes and Jeff Buckley, and while she does plan on touring stateside, the stops will be (sigh) limited.

As for being a new mom, Adele spilled on how amazing it is that everything in her life is now about someone else and not herself, saying “I found it quite constant before I had him and now he really slows the world down for me which I appreciate when I’m doing this kind of thing and when i’m not, every day life is really fast as well.”

Even more reason to be in love with Ms. Adele. For the complete Sirius spill, check this out.

Meanwhile, there’s this live performance if Adele singing her new 25 song, “When We Were Young” that will rock your world on a Tuesday.

3.Tom Petty is getting his own SiriusXM channel….

Roll em’ up, because starting this Friday, Mr. Tom Petty is getting his own SiriusXM station.

Taking over channel 31, Tom Petty Radio will serve up classic choice cuts of rock, rhythm and blues, and Petty will also be exclusively premiering new music on the station.

Of course, the new satellite radio channel will include music all across Petty’s remarkable career, including songs from his Heartbreaker days, as well as his solo career and time with the Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch. If that’s not enough Petty music smoke for you, there will also be helpings of the “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” crooners unreleased studio and live recordings, as well as unique cover versions of his songs and rare live performances.

No stranger to SiriusXM, Petty has been recording a weekly show with the channel called Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure for nine seasons, which will continue on with new and archival episodes on his new station.

“We are truly thrilled to be creating a new music channel with one of the biggest names in the history of rock and roll,” said SiriusXM president and chief content officer Scott Greenstein in the official statement. “Now with his own channel, Tom can spread his wings playing his incredible music from multiple decades, the familiar and the rare, as well as a broad range of other artists in rock and R&B.”

Go on, Mr. Petty.

4.Get ready….Nelson has a new holiday album on the way….

After making us swoon in the Nineties with their number one smash,  “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection,” Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, the twin sons of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Rick Nelson, are back and ready to make you swoon for Santa with their upcoming hikifay album, This Christmas, which will be available on Friday, November 20th.

The 12-track set will include plugged in arrangements of traditional holiday classics like “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Joy to the World.” The mistletoe ready record will also feature modern tunes such as “Blue Christmas,” “Jingle Bells” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” which will certainly make for a spirited blend of pop, rock and country that only the Nelson brothers will so neatly deliver, just in time for Santa.

5.Jimmy Kimmel strikes pure music gold in another one of his mash-up Mondays…

Keeping on with his memorable mash-up Mondays (last week’s Joss Stone Temple Pilots were priceless), Jimmy Kimmel brought on Jewel to perform with Kool & the Gang — a.k.a. Jewel and the Gang —who together performed a medley including the Gang’s songs, “Hollywood Swingin,” “Ladies Night,” and “Celebration.”

Just watch.

1.The Dixie Chicks are going on tour again….

It looks like The Dixie Chicks are ready to make nice with their fans who are patiently awaiting to see them on stage again.

It’s just been announced that the Grammy-winning country divas will kick off their 2016  “DCX MMXVI World Tour” on June 1 in Cincinnati with the tour wrapping up Oct. 10 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

The Chicks will visit more than 40 cities, including New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, Dallas and (almost) Philly with a stop at Hershey Park Stadium next June 24th.

Tickets go on sale Friday right here

2.Demi Lovato just destroyed a cover of Adele’s “Hello”

Just watch.

3.Justin Bieber may just snatch the #1 album crown from One Direction….

Completing his brilliant 2016 music comeback story, Justin Bieber’s released his red-hot Purpose set this past Friday set to glowing to reviews and what could be a grab on the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart over One Direction’s also just released, Made in the A.M set.

As of this weekend, industry forecasters say it’s too close to call, but it looks like Bieber may have the edge in overall equivalent album units — and for No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with sources suggesting that Purpose could shift an overall 475,000 to 500,000 units in the week ending Nov. 19  with Made in the A.M. expected to sell 450,000 to 475,000 total units.

Either way, with those kids of numbers in today’s suffering album sales market, make no mistake, the Biebs certainly made 2016 his bitch.

4. There’s now a campaign to get the Californian rock band Eagles of Death Metal to the top of the U.K. music charts…

Conceived as a way to “show solidarity against terrorism and support for peace,” a fan-led Facebook campaign has been set up urging people to buy the group’s cover of Duran Duran’s “Save a Prayer” following the deadly attack at Paris’ Bataclan theater during their concert on Friday. As of this morning, the Facebook group had over 7,000 followers.

“We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of ‘Save A Prayer’ to the top spot  as a show of support to the band and all of those affected,” the group said.

As of right now, the song is currently at number 37 in the iTunes charts and number three on Amazon. The U.K. singles chart closes at one minute before midnight on Nov. 19, so it isn’t yet known whether Duran Duran, the royalty holders, will donate proceeds from the single to charity.

5.Fifteen years ago this week, Destiny’s Child claimed major diva independence on the music charts…

Question-time certainly flies when you’re an independent woman, doesn’t it?

15 years ago today, Destiny’s Child began its longest Billboard Hot 100 reign, as their Charlie Angels anthem,  “Independent Women Part I” spent its first of a sizzling 11 weeks at No. 1.

Go on, Ms. Williams & friends.

Also making her mark on the Billboard charts twenty-five years ago this week, Madonna’s salacious  “Justify My Love” debuted at No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100, eventually going on to steamroll its way after its sex romp stamped MTV banned video was released on (sigh) VHS. The steamy serenade would pretty much become the first and last time sales of a music video would propel a song straight to the top of the charts.
