Weekend Entertainment Groove

Happy first weekend of summer!

Now, let’s make it a good one, shall we? And then do it all….again. Ready, set, SPF.

Aladdin If you’re curious to witness what all of the high-flying buzz is about (really, how could you not be when it comes to this show??), there’s still some time left to catch the magnificent traveling production of everyone’s favorite Disney fairy tale before it flies out of town…so don’t be a Jafar and grab those tickets now! And of course, Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie and the rest of this truly incredible cast will see you there! But first, jump right here for all of the action and make those three wishes come true. Tonight-July 1st/Academy of Music /check showtimes/$44-$188/240 S. Broad St.

You Can Never Go Down The Drain If you’re looking for a truly side-splitting night out over the next weeks, look no further than this entertaining spectacle right here. Fresh off the official Facebook page…..”Mr. Rogers always said: no matter how bad things are, “You can never go down the drain.” Using and abusing iconic songs from the program, Philadelphia’s Bearded Ladies Cabaret puts this idea to the test. In this performance, expect a goldfish funeral, gay romps into the land of make-believe, and some earnest questions about irony. ” Bottom line? Don’t miss it and go right here for those tickets….now. Tonight-July 1st/Wilma Theater/various dates & showtimes/265 S. Broad St.

Mamma Mia! Since there’s still quite some time until the gayest movie sequel ever made descends into our worlds (now until July 20th is, like, forever in Cher and Meryl time) why not go see the critically acclaimed national production of the original to help pass the grueling seconds along while it’s in Philly this summer? Yes. Just a word to your bell bottoms…tickets are going quick–because as we all know this show is life within itself–so don’t delay and shimmy on over to them right here and right now. Ready, set, “Fernando.” Tonight-through July 15th/various showtimes/ticket prices/Walnut Street Theater/825 Walnut St.

Tuesday Entertainment Groove

First up, a little (or a lot) of “Linger” by The Cranberries in tribute to the late Dolores O’Riordan, whom the music world–and beyond–lost yesterday at the gone-too-soon age of 46.

Then a list of fun events to cheer you up on this pre-snow Tuesday night. Don’t worry, it’s not going to be that bad.

Sing Your Life Karaoke w/ Sara Sherr While it may be more frozen than Madonna outside, that shouldn’t stop you from heading out to warm up those vocal chords thanks to the fabulous Ms. Sherr and her extensive collection of Sing Your Life Karaoke grooves, which are bound to take over your song butchering pleasure all week long at all of these fabulous Philly locations listed below. Les Miserables You’ve witnessed the long-running Broadway musical in all of its glory and you wish it was you who won the Academy Award instead of Anne Hathaway for the 2012 film version because you belt out ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ so much better than she can. And of course, most importantly…you are Susan Boyle. But now here’s your chance to catch this blockbuster musical while it’s here in Philly…but you better hurry because like the best kind of “Dream,” the critically acclaimed national production is only here for a few more magical moments, so you better grab those tickets…now. West Philadelphia Orchestra Looking to put a true entertainment jolt in your week? Really, who isn’t?), then you must head over to Franky Bradley’s tonight where the WPO will be more than waiting for you with all of that bangin’ brass and then some. 9 pm/1320 Chancellor St.

Because, really, there is no other way. Tabu Lounge & Sports Bar/7 pm/200 South 12th St.

The Humans The critically acclaimed story about a man named Erik Blake whose world–and family–begins to crumble after a weary sleepless night, The Humans is taking over the Walnut Street Theatre Winner beginning this evening for an eight week run that’s guaranteed to be nothing short of spectacular. Hailed by critics as “hilarious and unforgettable,” the show also bagged up twenty (!!) 2016 Best Play Awards, with one including a nice-and-shiny Tony Award.
