15 Essential Janet Rewerks

So many fiery Janet remixes….all disco day to sort them out…

Whether she’s serving us with those iconic moves or making us move for our music lives on the floor, there’s no need to argue that Janet Jackson is the undisputed timeless icon of dance music. During the groovy course of her four decade career, Janet has always been a fixture in rewerk culture mostly because her light, airy, breathy vocal tones and catchy pop melodies fit perfectly on any beat that’s remixed her way.

As you’ll hear with this serving of Janet rewerks, the diva is perfection on top of a deep house beat, a hip-hop rewerk or a hot-and-steamy bedroom ready flow. (Hey, Ms.Lyte.) But if there are any remixes on this essential list that you must play on repeat, it’s those provided by dearly departed DJs Frankie Knuckles and Peter Rauhofer who took over on a handful of remixes for our beloved dance queen.

Mr. Knuckles teamed up with the legendary David Morales to take hits “Because of Love” and “The Best Things In Life Are Free” to become even sexier versions of themselves, and shortly before his unfortunate death two years ago, Mr. Rauhofer took Janet’s already throbbing “Throb” and transformed it into a thunderous dance floor explosion that will leave you panting and wanting more. They’re all here and so much more.

Ready…set…Ms. Janet remixed.

1.Janet Jackson made Nutty chart history fifteen years ago today….

15 years ago today, Ms. Janet Jackson claimed her ninth No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Doesn’t Really Matter,” and becoming the first artist to have #1 singles in the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s. (Madonna would actually achieve the same feat three weeks later when “Music” grooved at #1)  “Matter” was served to us as the theme from the soundtrack to Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, which co-starred Jackson and Eddie Murphy.

Go on, Ms. Janet…

2.Taylor Swift’s surprise this guests just keep on comin’…….

As Taylor Swift continues to surprise her audiences with superstar guests, (she performed “You Oughta Know” with Ms. Alanis herself a few days ago), she also continues to show off, err, display her famous friends. During her fourth sold-out show at L.A.’s Staples Center last night, the mega popstar brought out John Legend, Beck, and St. Vincent.

First up was Legend, who performed “All Of Me” at a piano while Swift sang (and did her trademark dance moves) next to it in a shimmering gold floor-length gown.

Toward the end of Taylor’s set, Beck joined Swift on stage for his latest single, “Dreams,” accompanied by St. Vincent on guitar. Although it wasn’t quite the episode of Glee that “All Of Me” was, Ms. Diva clearly enjoyed herself, and the pyro portion of St. Vincent’s solo certainly got the crowd all sorts of amped.

Watch fan-filmed videos of both superstar moments below.

3.Carrie Underwood drops sexy video for “Smoke Break”…

Although “Smoke Break,” Carrie Underwood’s anthem to the hard-working folks around the globe who could sometimes use a little R&R from life’s craziness, was just released this week, she’ s already serving us with the steamy video for the track.

As Underwood drives around the desert in an old pickup truck, the video flashes back and forth to a diner, featuring a hardworking barista and a white-collar patron who both look like they’ve…just… When the truck breaks down, she joins the tired club as she is naturally forced to hitchhike with her guitar.

Not to mention, she’s also rockin’ one sexy, skin tight pair of Daisy Dukes and knee-high boots for days. You better work, Ms. Carrie.

4.Calvin Harris is Forbes highest paid DJ…are you surprised?

Surprise! according to Forbes’ latest report on dance music’s big earners, Calvin Harris is the undisputed king of EDM.

The Scottish producer and disc jockey earned $66 million last year to lead Forbes’ Electronic Cash Kings list for a second straight year, pulling in nearly double the next-highest earner, Mr. David Guetta who’s only made a measly $37 million dollars last year.

There’s no need to argue that Harris has the dance world at his headphones. He’s enjoyed mega-success not only cooking up tracks for other artists, but he’s also whipped up a beat buffet of his own hits. It also doesn’t hurt that he earns a small fortune for his DJ sets and that he also has a seven-figure endorsement with everyone’s favorite male celebrity endorsed underwear brand, Giorgio Armani. Not too shabby, Mr. Harris.

5.A lot of One Direction fans are pissed off at Joey Fatone right now…

Earlier this week, the world was devastated by the news that One Direction will be taking a break beginning early next year. Since the tragic news, Directioners have flooded social media with their depression, denial, and utter most despair. But the best, err, worst part for the fans came just a day later when former *NSYNC member Joey Fatone “wrote” a “you’re f#$ked” letter to the boys…and that’s when all 1D hell broke loose.

The now infamous “letter” is basically a bedtime story of what will happen to the 1D boys as soon as the hiatus kicks up. The fake letter points out that other than Harry Styles, the rest of the group is destined for failure. Plus, he took a direct shot at Louis Tomlinson…which this one fan didn’t take to lightly.

Pretty much sums it up. For the rest of the angry tweets…freak out right here.

1.One Direction just broke our hearts on a Monday….

Not to break anyone’s music hearts at the start of the week, but according to a report in The Sun, One Direction is going their separate ways next spring after the release of their fifth studio album.

Allegedly the members of the world dominating boy band–Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan–are each aiming to concentrate on solo projects, although there’s been no confirmation….yet.

It should also be noted that the supposed upcoming break was planned “with or without Zayn” Malik, who left 1D in March.

Naturally, when asked about the news by Newsbeat, the band’s PR team said “no comment.”

2.Demi Lovato drops a “Confident” new single…..

Although were still taking a bite out of Demi Lovato‘s sexy “Cool For The Summer” music cherry, the window shattering diva has dropped a new track. Titled “Confident,” the tune is set to be the next offering to be taken from Lovato’s upcoming untitled fifth studio album.

The Max Martin-produced track (go figure.) was confirmed as Lovato’s second single at the iHeartMedia summit earlier this month, but there has been no confirmation as to whether the leak is the actual song..until now.

If the alleged leak is in fact the real song, “Confident” is very fitting to Lovato’s newly reformed fierceness that she has publicly displayed recently between her eye-popping “Cool For The Summer” music video and no holds barred Cosmopolitan cover.

3.Taylor Swift set to drop “Wildest Dreams” clip at this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards…

While the MTV Video Music Awards are still a few days away, Ms. Taylor Swift already wants a big piece of them, besides the fact she’s nominated for forty-five moon men.

Earlier this morning, Swift shared a snippet of the video for “Wildest Dreams,” the fifth single taken from her chart destroying 1989 set. The singer served up a promo for the track on her Instagram page, which also announced that the upcoming clip will get its full-length premiere at the VMAs pre-show this Sunday, August 30th.

The “Style” singer wrote,  “Wildest Dreams music video preview. VMA night. Get ready. #WildestDreamsMusicVideo.”

From the oh, so quick tease, we can see its director runs with the “wild” theme complete with horses, zebras and tigers…oh my.

4.Straight Outta Compton owns the box office for a second week in a row…

Not that it’s a surprise too many, but Straight Outta Compton easily owned its box-office lead with an estimated $26.8 million in ticket sales over a very snoozy late summer weekend at the North American box office, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Universal’s red-hot N.W.A biopic busted a cap in the ass of other late August releases that often fit the movie mold of Hollywood’s dog days of summer. The film has made an astounding $111.5 million in two weeks, and continued to drive moviegoers, both male and female, despite those pesky renewed charges of misogyny in N.W.A infamous lyrics and the film overlooking claims of Dr. Dre’s abuse of women, who recently went on record by addressing the abuse, “I apologize to the women I’ve hurt. I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives.”

5.Here’s a little music chart rewind for your Monday…

Let’s go Back to the Future with this fun chart rewind as Huey Lewis & the News topped the Billboard Hot 100 thirty years ago this week with the “The Power of Love,” the iconic ’80s band’s theme from the Michael J. Fox time-travel blockbuster. Go on, Mr. McFly…

In more movie music truth, it was 20 years ago this week that Heidi Klum’s ex, Seal, took his dreamy Batman Forever ballad, “Kiss From A Rose,” straight to the top of the music charts. Bat time certainly flies, doesn’t it?
